Have ring, will fight: National Open Invitational Championships Vol 1

We had a blistering start to the year with our first muay thai competition, the National Open Invitational Championships Vol 1, jointly organised by Hilltop "The Gym" and SMU on January 9, 2011.

The ring is the very same one used for training at Hilltop "The Gym", and the fight took place in the underpass leading out of the Bras Basah MRT station into SMU.

The somewhat unconventional location didn't put off any spectators, however. The event drew hundreds of people, a testament to the increasing popularity of muay thai in Singapore.



There were 15 novice and amateur fights in all, where young fighters from various local tertiary institutions and muay thai gyms tested their mettle their mettle in the ring.

The event showcased promising local talent in the sport. Some fighters even paid homage to tradition, performing the "wai kru" before the start of the fight.

Congrats to all 30 who fought! You're a winner just by stepping into the ring. Continue to train hard!

Hilltop "The Gym", Hilltop EVENTS and SMU, proudly presents the first event of 2011! The National Open Invitational Championships Vol 1! This event is organised to promote the Art of MuayThai and more importantly to give the young and new practitioners the opportunity to showcase their training. Hilltop EVENTS is aimed at promoting local gyms and athletes and setting up more platforms for the upcoming batch of athletes in Singapore.
