It was a blistering afternoon outdoors as the Clash of the Gladiators - Chapter 2, kicked off at *SCAPE Warehouse on Friday 20 May! The auditorium was filled with anticipating crowd as the Ring Side seats were sold out!
The event started off with the Novice bouts, featuring new athletes of various ages and weight. Everyone there were stunned with the level of the Novice bouts!
Gyms from all over the island, came in the mood to shout and make their support for their athletes known. Flurry of kicks and punches started to the ring of the bell and it was no stopping these new athletes! The Novice bouts also saw 2 female bouts, and the crowd just went CRAZY!
In the Amateur bouts, the level picked up and Ronnie of Hanuman MuayThai could not answer to the kicks and punches of Hasyim of FWA. The bout concluded with Ronnie being disqualified with using illegal techniques and this showed the level of professionalism in the Referees and Judges from AMAS (Amateur MuayThai Association of Singapore).
After a short break at 5pm, the Professional bouts kicked off and first up was Ee Hock Seng (BXG) vs Aloysius (Suphanahong) with the decision going to Ee Hock Seng. This as all who were there would remember, was perhaps the BEST fight of that evening, with the battle fiercer then never before between these 2! End of bout, as in the culture of Muay Thai, these 2 great athletes were back to being friends and you would not have known that they had just finished a fierce battle with each other.
The next Professional bout also managed to put the crowd on their toes as Asfar of Suphanahong faced INDONESIA. The bout ended in the 3rd round as the Referee ruled it as RSC (Referee Stop Competition) due to the indonesian taking too much punishment.
At around 630pm, the 2 main bouts fighting for the belts, started with Brenda Shee of Hilltop THE GYM meeting yet another Thai fighter who had over 100 fights!
Brenda as always, faced a strong challenge against the Thai whose kick resounded in the whole auditorium as it landed on Brenda's arms. Brenda put up a tough fight and managed to walk away with the Belt, winning by points over Thailand.
The last but not the least bout of that evening was rising star Amir Khan of ASF as he faced perhaps one of his toughest fight ever! At 16, he was facing Hamdan of the Malaysian TNT Kickboxing and National player for Muay Thai. The first 2 rounds saw Amir getting caught with several hard overhands by Hamdan, who was surprised that Amir was still standing. In the 3rd and 4th round, Amir' corner changed the gameplan and that resulted in Amir winning by K.O. over his Malaysian opponent!
It was a GREAT event overall and it was clear that Singapore's Muay Thai is set to on on great heights!
This event was proudly sponsored by *SCAPE Singapore, LONSDALE, MAXIMUSCLE and POWER BALANCE!
Stay tuned for the NEXT event "Clash of the Gladiators - Chapter 3" and see the likes of Lena from BXG take on the title Belt!
